How I Do Two Channel Cords

DISCLAIMER: Do this at your own risk. I do not recommend or
advise that you use this procedure. I only admit that I do.

First take a 100' extension cord (Wal Mart $9.88) and cut off the ends.
Use the Male end to power your D-Light or LOR boxes.
Use the female end for same.

Next, purchase lamp cords with molded polarized plugs on them. This one is 10' long (Ace Hardware about $2 each)

I cut the plug off the with about two feet from two cords. Strip off about 1" of wire and twist the neutral wires together. The neutral wires come from the plug blade that is a bit wider than the other. The neutral wires also have little ribs on the side of the wire. I only use about a two foot length on the plug side because it's going to be plugged into a D-Light or LOR control box. The rest of the cord (8') will be for the other end and I will be able to have the two channels about 16' apart without using additional extension cords.

Strip off about 4" of outer covering of the extension cord and strip 1" off the white (neutral wire).

Slide 1/4" heat shrink tube over the white wire (I didn't have white shrink tube) Solder the wires (get it nice and shiny)

Slide the heat tube over the two plug wires (You may need to smash the insulation on the lamp cord a bit)

Solder up the other two (I use different color tube)

Almost finished end. I complete the end by brushing "Liquid Electrical Tape"
on the joints and especially on the extension cord cut insulation.

The cut end of the 10' lamp cord has pre-striped ends with little copper ends.

I tinned the ends with solder.

Ready to attached the tinned ends to the plug. Neutral is the ribbed side of the wire and it attaches to the
silver colored prong (the wider prong). The smooth side of the cord attaches to the gold colored prong.

These plugs came from Ace Hardware and are about $1.90 each. Remember to slide the cover on before hooking it up.
I didn't here because I have not attached the other end to the extension cord.

Once you finish attaching the lamp cord to the extension cord you have a 100' two channel extension cord.

I color code the ends with Liquid Electrical Tape. It comes in red, green, white and black.
I use a little green on the matching plugs.

REMEMBER: You now have a cord that is rated half the amperage of the cord you started out with.
I only use these cords for running 2-3 amps so I am way under the total capacity.
100' 16 gauge extension cords are typically rated at 15 amps so the maximum on each channel is 7.5 amps.
